The initial process is one of gathering information. The client needs to make decisions on the size of the painting, the setting and attire for the subject, the background and any additional subject matter included as part of the composition. The artist needs this information as well as a description or interpretation of the subject’s personality.

Children: A formal sitting is not necessary. Rather, one or several good photographs (8x10) of the subject are sufficient. A photographer (included in the fee) is provided for a scheduled sitting at the client’s desired location. Once the photographs are developed, another meeting is planned for the client to choose the photograph. While the painting is underway, the artist needs to see the client and the subject several times. The artist desires some comments and feedback from the client to insure that the desired look is being achieved at various stages of the work’s development.

Adults: The artist will use the same procedure as described for children. However, after the photograph is chosen, some formal sittings may be necessary.

Animal/Pets: The artist can work from clients photograph or any professional photograph. The artist can even take photographs of client's pet, if necessary. The photograph size must be 8x10 or larger. Detail and lighting are gravely important. If the client desires to shoot his/her own photograph, please shoot away from direct or harsh sunlight. Ideally all pictures should be taken outdoors.  A better idea is to wait for a cloudy day which distributes softer, more even light with much less glare and hardly any shadows.

The paintings that are featured in the artist’s portfolio in this website (excluding ‘Plein Air’) have been executed from photographs. These photographs have been provided from the client’s honeymoon trips, other travels, or the artist’s own collection. The artist encourages the client to choose a photograph from his/her own records that holds some sentimental value. No photographs with copyright or taken by any other photographer without permission can be used.
